| by Editor | Posted in Hitchin Home & Garden

This lunchtime is the Triangle Garden Open Day, with plant sales, cream teas, children’s nature trails, welly-wanging, and a fun dog show for your canine friend to enter. A day of family fun in one of Hitchin’s most treasured gardens.

Triangle Garden Open Day

Located at Ransoms Recreation Ground is the beautiful Triangle Garden, a community garden that has been created by people of all ages and abilities in Hitchin. From the mosaic floor designed by locals under the artistic eye of artist Jane Visick to the locally grown flowers and vegetables on display, the Triangle Garden is a true vision and work of love by the Hitchin community. And this afternoon, starting from 12pm, is the garden’s fantastic Open Day & Dog Show, welcoming members of the public to come and enjoy a day of family fun.

The dog show event (£2 per dog entry) is sponsored by Berry House Vets in aid of the Greyhound rescue charity Forever Hounds Trust. And there will be 8 fun categories to enter your dog into: Best Pedigree, Best Crossbreed, Handsomest Dog, Prettiest Bitch, Child Handler, Waggiest Tail, Best Rescue and Most Kissable Nose! In addition to healthy canine competition, the day will also bring plant sales, cream teas and bake sales, a raffle with superb prizes, nature trails for the kids, pond dipping, games and activities such as welly-wanging, hook a newt and much, much more. And don’t worry about getting peckish – there will also be a selection of stalls with food from around the globe. Including Mexican street eats from award-winning Cantinas Carnitas and vegetarian Asian delights from Bal Minhas.

Entry to the Open Day is FREE of charge so if you’re looking for something to do this afternoon, come along to support the wonderful work being done at Ransoms Recreation Ground.

The Triangle Garden run community gardening events, workshops, walks and talks throughout the year. And people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities can get involved in land-based activities such as growing food and flowers, tending plants, creating wildlife habitats or designing permanent garden features. The Triangle Garden also hosts a weekly Gardening Club and new volunteers are always welcome. So if you can’t make the Open Day today, make sure you visit the Triangle Community Garden website to find out how else you can get involved.
