Hitchin Town FC - Weekly Bulletin

Hitchin Town FC - Weekly Bulletin

| by Roy Izzard | Posted in Hitchin Sport

Saturday 28 April  away to Weymouth  league  kick off 3.00pm. Coach leaves at 9.30am.

This is the last game of the season.

This is the match report from Callum Ellis of the game last Sunday:

"Sunday 22nd April saw us take on Evergreen Eagles FC. We had played them twice already this season in the league and the league cup. Both were home fixtures and both saw wins for us.

We started on the front foot! Hitchin started to push the ball around the field creating space in various areas of the pitch. The first attack fell to McNamara whose shot glanced off the crossbar. A run from Franklin down the right side won us a corner. Chaffey swung the ball over which was met by the free head of Cain-Murnane and it was 1-0 to Hitchin.

A punt from Thompson  was flicked on by Chaffey towards McNamara who was quickly shut off by the goalkeeper. Hitchin were on the attack again and started a move from the defence. The ball was played to Gash who made a run on the left. Gash crossed the ball in
which fell to McNamara who shot just wide.

The referee blew the whistle for half time. Soul Shack provided the half time refreshments to keep the girls hydrated for the second half. Everyone loves an orange and a cookie! We even had support from the local policing team!

The second half got underway and the weather was taking its toll on all those playing.
Hitchin were playing the ball around the field and creating chances which were being shut out by the Evergreen keeper. A Chaffey corner was delivered perfectly which was met by the head of McNamara. The war with the keeper was finally broken and it was 2-0.

The game restarted and Hitchin were forcing Evergreen back. Each attack from Evergreen was calmly swept away by the Hitchin defence. The last goal of the game was created again from the Hitchin defence. The ball was knocked to Cain-Murnane who sent McNamara through the defence and she rounded the keeper to slot into an empty net.

The referee blew the whistle to end the game and our policing spectators left enjoying their first taste of Ladies football. With the win today it moved us up the table to third."

Hitchin Town Ladies are away to Garston Ladies 2nd XI this Sunday 29 April at 2pm. This is at Bushey Sports Club, Aldenham Road, Bushey.

The Academy side beat Wealdstone 2-0 last Friday at Potters Bar and then beat Dorking Wanderers 5-0 on Wednesday. Today (Friday) they are away to Metropolitan Police. They are currently fourth in the table.

The U13 Panthers contest the Hertfordshire FA County Cup which kicks off at 10:30am on Sunday 29 April. The final, against Maccabi London Lions, will take place at the County Ground in Letchworth, home of the Hertfordshire football association.

The charity match for Sport Relief featuring Hitchin Boys School, Hitchin Girls School and Priory School will take place on Wednesday 2 May at Top Field. It will  start at  5.00pm and finish at 9.00pm. Entrance will be £2.

Colin Ridgway has announced he will be standing down as our social media officer at the end of the season. He has done a brilliant job and we wish him well for the future. We are now looking for his replacement and anyone interested in doing some or all of this role (or would like to know more about what it entails) should contact me at

We urgently need a replacement for Colin so please consider if you could help.

We are also looking for help in the club office  on match days. Again please contact me if you could help.

Robin Chandler was present at the Bishops Stortford game. He played 17 games scoring 4 goals between 1979 and 1981 and was also part of the coaching staff.

We are really suffering at the moment as the heavy fixture list has taken a toll on our playing resources. The number of absentees at Weymouth will reach double figures.

Dan Webb, Lewis Rolfe, Jack Green, Elliot Bailey, Jay Dowie, Kieran McCaffrey, Lucas Kirkpatrick and Kevin Byrne are all injured while Ben Walster faces a fitness test.

Matt Spring, Connor Vincent, Josh Mollison and James Budden are unavailable meaning at least a dozen players are ruled out.
