Our Hitchin Monthly Update

Our Hitchin Monthly Update

All change for our Ranger team

Last month we said goodbye to Cameron Clare, our long-standing Town Centre Ranger who started with Hitchin BID at the age of 15! After 6 years of hard work and dedication dealing with a wide variety of duties and working alongside our businesses, he has moved on to new challenges.

Cameron said “The last six and a half years have been a blast, I’d like to thank everyone in town for their tremendous support for my charity work and just their support of me and the BID. I wouldn’t be who I am now without the fantastic team that I’ve had surrounding me. I’m leaving you in good hands, Andy is skilled and has a great sense of humour, I’m sure he won’t let you down. Thank you, Hitchin!” Cameron has been a huge asset to the town centre, and we wish him all the best for the future!

A huge warm welcome to Andy Gibbs, our new part time Ranger who joined the team last month. Andy has previously worked at the British Schools Museum and has an experienced knowledge of the town centre and its businesses. Andy said “I am very much enjoying working with the highly-respected Hitchin BID team as a Town Centre Ranger. As a Hitchin man through and through I am delighted to be able to help in keeping the town vibrant, clean and safe .

25 years for Harvest Moon

Harvest Moon is celebrating 25 years of trading.
Established in 1994 by Simon and Janet Jenkins they sell fairly traded gifts, clothes, jewellery and furnishings and many items are also from recycled or environmentally friendly materials. The shop was ahead of its time, giving up plastic bags 10 years ago and encouraging the use of shopping bags, reusable coffee cups and clothes made from organic cotton, bamboo and hemp. They also sells books and magazines and have a wide range of aromatherapy products, crystals, incense, candles and CDs.
Their celebrations include many special offers and they would like to say a huge thanks to all their customers for their support.

Business Breakfast

The next business breakfast is on Wednesday 19th June at 7.30am at Halseys. Usual mix of town updates, commercial news and forthcoming events.

The cost remains at £10 payable on the day but please do let Cherry know if you are attending so that we can confirm numbers.

Reflections of Infinity

What started as a stall in the old Corn Exchange selling mirrors and silver jewellery, Reflections of Infinity, is celebrating 20 years at 26 Churchyard this month. The business has sold mainly British-made silver jewellery sourced from designers and makers personally known to the shop’s owners Colin and Christine Beadle.

“Over the years different design concepts have been successful: Charles Rennie Mackintosh inspired jewellery and the steel Breil snake necklaces come to mind” said Colin
“We now concentrate on retailing work from new young designers we’ve met at specialist trade shows in the UK. We prefer dealing with suppliers like these rather than anonymous Far East based conglomerates".

Reflections of Infinity’s A-board design is a local talking point featuring a startled cat on a tree apparently wearing a watch.

Hitchin Priory GM shuffles team

Deepak Choudhary, who joined back in October 2018, has introduced major changes to the team since his tenure.

New members include Ivan Kolaksazov; Hotel Operations Manager, Kirstie McDaid; Front of House Manager and a Head Chef; Juette Shallow, who joins in June from Coq d’Argent, a prestigious City of London restaurant. These changes reflect the importance of the venue’s interaction with its customers and its transformation ambition, in particular its customer service and future fine dining offer.
